Which socket is my CPU?

Find your CPU's generation, read the socket, then the mounting pattern. Blocks fit by pattern.

What decides whether a block fits is the mounting hole pattern, not the socket name.

Nine patterns cover everything below. Inside a pattern, blocks are interchangeable, which is why one block can honestly say LGA 115x / 1200 or AM4 / AM5. A socket revision that breaks CPU compatibility usually leaves cooler compatibility alone.

Mounting patterns

75 x 75 mm

LGA 1156, 1155, 1150, 1151, 1200

1st gen Core (Lynnfield) through 11th gen Rocket Lake, 2009 to 2021.

78 x 78 mm

LGA 1700, LGA 1851

12th, 13th, 14th gen Core, and Core Ultra 200S. An LGA 1700 block fits Core Ultra.

80 x 80 mm

LGA 1366, 2011, 2011-3, 2066

1st gen Core i7 and every Intel HEDT socket up to Cascade Lake-X.

54 x 90 mm

AM4, AM5

Ryzen 1000 through 9000.Not the AM3 pattern. A block that lists both ships a bracket for each.

48 x 96 mm

AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2, FM2+

Athlon 64 X2, Phenom, Phenom II, FX and the A-series APUs, 2006 to 2016.

Threadripper / SP3

TR4, sTRX4, sWRX8, SP3 (LGA 4094)

Threadripper 1000 to 5000WX and EPYC 7001 to 7003 share one mounting.Threadripper 7000 and 9000 (sTR5) do not belong here.

Threadripper 7000 and 9000, and EPYC 8004 Siena, share one mounting.

SP5 (LGA 6096)

EPYC 9004 and 9005. Its own pattern; nothing else shares it.

Each Xeon socket carries its own mounting. LGA 3647 exists in Square and Narrow ILM. LGA 4710 keeps the LGA 4677 footprint.

Xeon Scalable model numbers: the first digit is the tier (8 Platinum, 6 and 5 Gold, 4 Silver, 3 Bronze). The second digit is the generation: 8180 is 1st gen, 8280 is 2nd, 8380 is 3rd, 8480 is 4th, 8580 is 5th.
